What exactly is the point of a blog reader…

That doesn’t actually tell you there are new blog posts to read? Or only tells you for some blogs but not others? Or only tells you a month later there have been a dozen posts in the meantime?

Technology. If I weren’t such an addict, I’d abstain entirely, I swear.

Which is all an overly complicated way of saying I JUST found out I got a shout out (and indirectly inspired whole discussions) on Mothers For Women’s Lib. I feel like I’ve arrived, but am acting like I’m the only one in the room still. I just want to grovel and shout “I’m not ignoring you, I’m just ignorant!”

I also appear to have inspired a really kickass rant at Womanist Musings, which would have been more of a compliment if it weren’t basically a fuck-you to my own post. Which, to be fair, was a fuck-generic-you rant inspired by a total side comment in yet another post of hers. The whole thing would be funnier or hipper if I didn’t get the feeling we were having two different conversations: hers about reclaiming the power of the female genitalia (rock on, I say!), mine about the belittling power of using the vagina (not the whole lovely set including the clit and the labia and all that other fun stuff, just the tube, the hole) as the badge of womanhood. I think we’re both right-on, but running right on by each other.

Anyway, those are my forays in to the incestuous intarwebz of the blogosphere. Naively, I thought starting a blog was simple: y’know, write stuff, post it, hope people comment. Then I find out there’s this whole WORLD out there that I’ve been missing, full of amazing, intelligent, thoughtful, ass-kicking women; and I’m still missing out, because of damn stupid technology falling down on the job.

Next up: find a new blog reader for my iPhone, one that doesn’t suck. Suggestions? Or, how do you keep up on your favorite blogs?

  1. I use Google Reader and find that it updates pretty much immediately.

  2. google reader for the win

  3. I put the people I follow on my blog and then I see when they update.

  4. Super Ninja Mommy

the blogger “follower” feature has been my most reliable reader. :0)

  5. The problem with the “follow” feature is (as far as I can tell) it only works for other Blogger/Blogspot blogs. And lots of the ones I like are wordpress or other types.

Google Reader it is. :) Although it looks like the iPhone app for it is basically just a link. Ah well, one can’t have everything.

    Thanks all!
