I think that exemplifies the bad mom/good dad dichotomy that the quiz pair is pointing out. She is vilified for working, and in turn vilifies others for NOT working, but a SAHD is not only a good dad but an AMAZING dad, worthy of news features.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up right there.

we have some people in our social circle, they had a baby.
she went back to work after 10mins and dad stayed at home.
she often referred to the rest of us mums as being lazy/not doing much of anything important.

her husband was interviewed by a well read australian women's magazine for an article for father's day about glorious stay at home dads.

It made me so mad because they got so fluffed for being at home, taking the kids to the park, changing nappies while their women went back to Corporate Heaven to make AU$250K/year.

Why does my husband refer to looking after our children as "babysitting"?

rambling. going to bed now.

"Though there's a strange freedom in knowing that no matter what, someone will think you are a crap mom, so you might as well do what works for you."

That sounds strangely like my mantra, which is "I WILL fuck up my kid some way, so I might as well do what works for me." There is freedom in being released from the idea of perfectionism. Knowing ahead of time that you're going to "fail" gives one the space to be creative, and to have a whole lot more fun.

Well, I find it freeing anyway. ;)

So sadly hilarious.

Though there's a strange freedom in knowing that no matter what, someone will think you are a crap mom, so you might as well do what works for you. (I say this after almost 3 years of nonstop mommy guilt, haha.)

And don't even get me started on the whole "Oh, he's such a great dad, he watches the kids for her so she can take a break" thing I hear. Hello, they're your own friggin' children, you are not a babysitter, it's called pa-ren-ting, bucko.

Thanks, Bethany! I can't take credit for the mom quiz, and the dad quiz almost wrote itself in response. ;) I could say so much more on the topic (and I have, and I will), but this pair of quizzes seemed to speak for themselves.
